Our Leadership

 Meet Pastor & Lady Brown

Rev. Christopher Brown is a fourth generation preacher who desires to exalt Jesus Christ in Spirit and in Truth. His charismatic, yet unpretentious preaching illustrates the gospel in a relevant and progressive way. Guided by his anointing for transformation, Rev. Brown utilizes his spiritual gifts of pastoral leadership, wisdom, and prophetic influence – to minister to those in need of hope through God’s love. 

Rev. Brown is a strong proponent of ministry beyond the four walls of the church. Prior to pastoring, he served as Director of Engagement with a faith-based non-profit for 15 years leading hundreds of outreach campaigns that influenced revolutionary change worldwide.  

Rev. Brown earned his Bachelor’s Degree from North Carolina College of Theology. He is married to Lady Keshia Lashon, and they work as one serving the needs of the community and the local church. They are the proud parents of their only son, Cavon Marcel.

Pastor Dr. Russell E. Groves

Rev. Dr. Russell E. Groves went to be with the Lord on December 4, 2020.  Dr. Groves was born in Cuba, New York where he received his early education. Dr. Groves is the husband of the beautiful and virtuous Lorain Groves, who faithfully stands by her husband’s side in his dedication and devotion to serving God and His will.

Dr. Groves was called into the gospel ministry in 1974. In 1976 he was ordained. Wanting to deepen his knowledge and understanding of God’s Word (after his call into the ministry by God), he entered the University of Virginia Seminary and College of Lynchburg, (Baltimore extension) where he received a Bachelor’s of Art, Master of Christian Education and Master of Divinity degrees. Dr. Groves continued to pursue his education at the Maryland Theological Seminary and received his Doctor of Divinity Degree. He also received a Doctor of Ministry from the Eastern Theological Seminary of Lynchburg, Virginia.

On September 20, 1987, Dr. Groves was placed as co-pastor of Canaan Baptist Church and on September 20, 1988, he became the fourth pastor of Canaan Baptist Church of Baltimore City, Inc. Pastor Russell E. Groves firmly believes that prayerful learning, teaching and preaching leads to growth and Christian commitment in the church, the community and the world at large. He delights to do God's Will!

On August 2, 2020, Dr Groves transitioned to Pastor Emeritus.  He realized that it was time to pass the baton over to the humble, bible teaching, and bible preaching  man of God, by the name of, Pastor Christopher M. Brown.  Dr. Groves has no doubt that Pastor Brown will continue to spread the never-ending love of Jesus Christ  in the same compassionate and non-selfish manner that he has done for over 30 years.  Dr. Groves always expounded that, "Canaan is the Best church in the entire World!"

 God created man holy and without sin. But man, of his own will, fell into sin and so brought sin upon the whole human race. But God so loved the world that He sent His only Son, Christ Jesus to save the world.

The Trinity

 There is only one God. He is three distinct and individual persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit
